Throughout the month of June, Quartzelec, an international provider of engineering services and a global expert in rotating machines, is celebrating 10-years since the opening of its dedicated workshop and site operations business in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which has gone on to become an established market leader for rotating equipment repairs across the region.

“With our dedicated team here in Malaysia, over the last 10 years we have built a solid and highly regarded operation and workforce that is the envy of many,” stated Matt Brown, Quartzelec’s Director & General Manager. “As unrivalled independent experts in our field we have developed and delivered cost effective rotating electrical machine solutions for a prestigious list of customers.  We also continue to expand by actively managing the business to meet the growing needs of key utility providers and customers from across the region with our repair, rewind, maintenance and service capabilities of AC/DC, LV/HV motors and generators from fractional horsepower up to 325MW. As a business and as a team, we are all looking forward to the next 10-years, expanding the business further.”

Originally founded as a Joint Venture in 2012 with a local partner  to ensure necessary commercial registrations and licences within Malaysia were established, Quartzelec acquired full control of the operations in late 2020 and commenced an ambitious expansion programme to meet growing local demand.  

The S.E Asia operation now has a workforce of circa 43 highly skilled & experienced employees, the vast majority of whom are local to the business. The operation now boasts over 300 customers and is recognised as a strategic hub for the development of the SE Asia region, especially the ever-growing Philippines business. It has also achieved ISO9001, 45001, 14001certifications, been accredited as an IECEx Certified Service Facility for Explosive Environment equipment and has been recognised and appointed as the preferred ‘in-country’ partner for leading OEMs.

Matt Brown who has overseen the growth over recent years will also shortly be handing over the senior management role in Malaysia to Paul Richardson when he then brings his expertise back to the UK operations.

Quartzelec’s (30,000sq/ft) workshop in Kuala Lumpur has been upgraded over time with improved and higher capacity testing and equipment being incorporated. Its local workforce also continues to receive extensive training in the areas of commercial, health and safety and quality which when combined with the internationally recognised accreditations it now holds, the operations increasingly provide its client base with unrivalled service and the added assurances of a global service provider.
