A major Chinese operator of hydro power plants has recently awarded Peiport Scientific Aero Limited, Quartzteq’s appointed distributor within the region, a significant order for LIFEVIEW® condition monitoring solutions to include partial discharge monitoring and sensors.  

The contract, secured in tender against several major competitors, will see seventeen of the LIFEVIEW® PDA II online partial discharge monitoring systems, including our QCC34 coupling capacitors supplied for installation across multiple hydro plants. In addition, Quartzteq will continue to support with a periodic analysis of recorded data. Part of an ongoing preventive maintenance programme, the customer’s intention is to eventually have their full hydro-generator fleet connected to their digital platforms and continuously monitored via a remote-control centre. 

The LIFEVIEW PDA II solution will prove hugely beneficial to the client as the system will provide regular accurate data as tests are conducted under real operating conditions. Additionally, reports will provide early warnings of critical problems so that a decision can be made on whether intervention is required, allowing the client to plan when this is to take place to avoid unnecessary additional downtime and protect against costly damage.

The first consignment was shipped late October 2021 and is now operational and the final consignment was shipped early January.

LIFEVIEW PDA II is a permanent online condition monitoring system for high voltage rotating machines such as motors and generators. Designed to specifically monitor partial discharge, the LIFEVIEW PDA II is a cost-effective solution which plays an important role within the overall site maintenance programme.
