TS Metals achieves UKCA Certification in accordance to EN 1090-1:2009 structural steel standard

6 March 2023

TS Metals, part of the Quartzelec Group, is a long-established one-stop shop for welding, laser and fabrication services, providing customers in a specialist subcontract capacity as well as larger assembly processes. Now, by fulfilling all the necessary requirements to meet the European EN 1090-1:2009 standard, the business can undertake manufacture and supply of steel and aluminium structural components to the UK.

“This is a significant and exciting step forwards for TS Metals” stated Ian Addison, TS Metals’ Business Manager. “It has been a legal requirement since July 2014 for structural steel and aluminium components to carry CE/UKCA marking in compliance with EN-1090-1, so it’s fantastic to have achieved this recognition. This new capability fits well into our existing specialist services that we already provide and opens a significant new potential customer base for us”.

As specialist metal fabricators, welders and engineers, providing bespoke fabricated and laser cut solutions, TS Metals has a strong customer base covering a wide range of market sectors including; Power, Energy & Utilities Markets including Nuclear and Renewables, the Oil, Gas & Pet‑Chem industries, Marine, Defence & Aerospace, Automotive, Food & Beverage, Quarrying, Mining & Aggregates along with Public Sector work.

Delivering turnkey engineering projects, TS Metals’ existing in-house services encompass Laser Profiling, Welding and Fabrication, NDT and Finishing Services including shotblasting. The addition of supplying certified structural metalwork will further enhance these capabilities.

In order to achieve UKCA certification TS Metals has undergone a comprehensive audit by CFA, a leading UKAS approved body. Audits were also carried out against welding standard EN ISO 3834, working to 3834-3. The business has an extensive Factory Control Procedure System in place investing in the training and qualification of Responsible Welding Coordinators which ensure the stringent standards are met.

Ian Addison continued “Traceability of all raw materials including fasteners and welding consumables Is paramount, as is full accountability for the work delivered. Having comprehensive checks and controls in place is equally vital and these are constantly reviewed by our qualified and now accredited in-house team. Our sub-contractors also undergo onsite audits to ensure they also comply with EN1090. This means our customers can rest assured that they are using a recognised structural steel supplier and be confident that their fabrication requirements meet specification and conform to standards.”

Kathy Best, Business Development Manager for TS Metals added “A lot of hard work has gone in to achieving UKCA certification, I’m delighted with the dedication of the team at TS Metals and am excited to see how we can support the industry & bring structural products to market in the UK.”

When BS EN 1090-1:2009, the harmonised of European Standards that apply to structural metalwork, came into force in July 2014 & subsequently UKCA marking in January 2021, only companies conforming to this standard could legally undertake projects and produce solutions that then carry the necessary and legitimate CE/ UKCA mark. For the purpose of TS Metals certification and operating procedures, the company has declared products placed on the market will be to Execution Class 2. As well as demonstrating full traceability, all relevant test certificates can be provided along with the UKCA marking.
