Mechanical / Electrical Apprentice


Swansea supports the local industry and infrastructure with a range of unique rotating machine services, including repair and maintenance of motors and generators with specialist support available for the Oil and Gas, Marine and Renewables markets.

The activities undertaken by our Electrical / Mechanical Fitting departments are both diverse and challenging as they cover all aspects of the manufacture, repair & refurbishment of rotating machines which are often highly complex.

  

Key Responsibilities & Accountability

Each respective role (Electrical / Mechanical) will offer the individual to get involved in all aspects of engineering processes within the rotating machines industry.

Your key responsibilities and accountability on completion of your apprenticeship may include:

  • Producing Components using Hand Fitting Techniques
  • Repair & Refurbishment of mechanical assemblies
  • Electro-mechanical repairs, service, and overhaul of AC/ DC equipment
  • Preparing and using Lathes for Turning Operations
  • Preparing and using Milling Machines
  • Dynamic Balancing & Laser Alignments
  • Testing of Rotating machines
  • Working safely, with regard for your duty of care to yourself and to others who may be affected by your work
  • Always adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Keep others informed of information that contributes to the performance of the team, department, or company

 

Qualifications, Experience & Personal Attributes

By joining Quartzelec you will become part of a team, with the potential to become part of a truly nationwide service provider.

This 4-year apprenticeship will honour you with a qualification National Vocational qualification Level 3 (NVQ3) starting in September 2025, which will include day release study to the local College (Gower). It involves the skills and knowledge needed to do the job, ability to organise work and identify and prevent problems.

Apprenticeship candidates will normally have attained 3 to 5 GCSEs at grades level 5/ A to C including mathematics, English, and a science.

The following qualifications are attained through this apprenticeship:

  • Level 2 – Performing Engineering Operations (PEO2)
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering

Eligibility also requires candidates to be UK nationals or to have resided in the UK for at least five years, with the legal right to live and work in the UK. Additionally, a valid full UK driving license is preferred.
