Quartzteq has just completed fast-tracking developments to a key product from the LIFEVIEW® suite of Condition Monitoring solutions – the PDAII, specifically the ATEX certified version – integrating Wi‑Fi to enhance communication and connectivity between multiple monitoring devices whilst meeting the industry standards and requirements for the Oil & Gas sector.
The LIFEVIEW PDAII is a permanent online condition monitoring system providing continuous monitoring of partial discharge activity, allowing the insulation condition to be expertly assessed. Whilst already an established product in electrical machine monitoring for hazardous area environments, Quartzteq have further enhanced their ability to communicate with additional condition monitoring systems and help the operator to gather valuable information.
Karim Abdelnour, Business Manager at Quartzteq commented; “our LIFEVIEW® condition monitoring solutions are increasingly being utilised on fleets of critical rotating machines but the key requirement for this installation was guaranteed connectivity between devices to ensure secure data could be transmitted, without having to physically visit each of the in-situ machines.”
Karim continued, “Whilst always on our agenda to incorporate an improved level of networking, the product development was pushed forward after a request from a client. We had the ability to fast-track this project and provide a product which can now provide more value for remote clients and in this case is perfectly situated for oil and gas clients which are bound by ATEX/IECEx standards
With the new adaption, the Wi-Fi feature is now available in the LIFEVIEW PDAII which ensures equipment can easily be monitored from an onshore location without the need for running additional local area network cables and saving the client cabling installation costs. The solution also means onshore personnel can obtain the data without the need for offshore personnel intervention. Wi-Fi connectivity also enables the LIFEVIEW PDAII Analyser to be used as an IoT ‘Internet of Things’ device and with key communication interfaces enabled we can ‘talk’ with cloud-based technologies, allowing the operator to view identified parameters in real time and capitalise on the Industry 4.0 revolution which we currently find ourselves in.
“Whilst this Wi-Fi solution was initially developed to meet the specific requirements for existing users in the European offshore Oil & Gas sectors, it has significant appeal across many other industry sectors, each looking for robust, easy to install equipment across other remote located applications,” concluded Karim Abdelnour.
The LIFEVIEW PDAII with Wi-Fi connectivity is available now in both ATEX/IECEx and safe area models.
